Isn’t FLP and MLM all about People? Why then also do Internet Marketing?

FLP is a people businessIt’s quite common that your MLM company and your upline manager (the person who sponsored you into this business) will encourage personal contact when recruiting or selling: speaking to others in person, picking up the telephone to talk, and other live and in-person methods of contact to grow your business. They will say “Network Marketing is a People Business”.

And they’re right. That’s what’s so great about it!

And that’s probably one of the main reasons why you joined this company. Let’s be honest – it’s not all about the money. Possibly the person who contacted you and talked about the opportunity and the products impressed you with their warm personality and friendly, helpful nature. They may have mentioned all the supportive training and help you will get if you join. And especially with Forever Living, once you interact with your upline, downline, and other distributors and staff, and attend some of the training sessions, you will find that you feel like you belong to a large, friendly family; rather than a cold, impersonal business.

All good.

But there are some misconceptions and problems with relying only on personal contact to grow your business. Consider that:

  1. You may quite quickly run out of people to talk to. Even if you already have a large number of family, friends, acquaintances and contacts in your environment who you are willing to contact, these might eventually dry up.
  2. The people you know and those they know might not always be in your target market. This is a very simple but important and powerful concept in marketing – you need to contact people who are relevant to your products, services or business opporrtunity; or you will be wasting a lot of your and their time promoting to those who are not interested or right for your business.
  3. You are missing out of a much larger market by ignoring the very powerful medium of the Internet.

However, this is important: Even through the use of the Internet, you need to ensure your interactions with those you reach out to, or those who find you, are still personalised. That is, you still need to show the same care and take the same time and effort talking to these people about their lives and needs, as you would if you were standing in front of them.

Some ways you can ensure you’re staying personal, even over the World Wide Web:

  • Once someone has contacted you via your website or social media, arrange a time for a video chat or a Skype call, so that your interactions are immediately more personal than emails.
  • Take time to hear their story, because their needs are just as important as people around you, and will impact on their decision to buy or join.
  • Keep in regular contact with them, so they know you think about them.
  • Keep notes about their circumstances, so that you can ask them questions about their lives, which shows you care. Use their name every time you contact them.
  • Think about ways to make them feel special, for example, send them free online gifts in the form of e-books, information, links or vouchers; and remember to wish them ‘happy birthday’ on the day!

Network Marketing is a people business. This is what gives it the potential to be so successful. So you need to use that to your advantage, and keep personalising your business interactions, even when utilising the Internet to help grow your business.

What is Internet Marketing, and how to get started with it…

Kathryn Wilson - video marketingWhile it is possible to do Online Marketing or Internet Marketing (same thing) without a website, it’s way better with a website. This is because your website is your online’ home’, where you can communicate all you need to about your business, yourself, and your products/services.

As a Forever Living distributor, it’s likely that you have your own paid Forever Living replicate website, with an address similar to www. aloebeehealth. myflpbiz. com (remove spaces when copying and pasting to your browser) – or your own domain name. Note that although this blog post has been written primarily for Forever Living Products independent distributors, this training on Internet Marketing applies to all online businesses as well as online Network Marketers.

Internet Marketing is simply using the power of the Internet to gain visitors to your website, in order to increase sales of your products/services – and in the case of Forever Living or other MLM companies, to also increase recruitment of distributors to your team. The reason you do Internet Marketing is because it gives you access to a much bigger reach or range of potential customers or distributors than you would have from your circle of acquaintances in real life; and having a website these days and doing business over the Internet is expected, if you want to have business credibility!

Online Marketing essentially involves two things:

  • Ensuring your website will be found in the Search Engines (like Google), when people are searching for Aloe Vera health and beauty products, home business opportunities, or whatever it is you are selling,
  • Actively marketing and promoting your website, products/services, and business opportunity via other websites and Social Media.

In order to ensure people find your website within the main search engines, you need to:

  • Make sure that your website SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is up to scratch, which means checking the likely keywords people use when searching for your kind of business/products/services, and ensuring these are included in the meta keywords (within the code) of your website, as well as within the text or content that people read on your website.
  • Create Back-Links to your website on other relevant websites. You do not always have control over these, as people may place links to your website or certain pages of your website, on their websites or social media pages. This is good! But you should also put links to your website on forums, other people’s websites and blogs (if allowed), and on your social media profiles.

To promote your website and products/services as well as the FLP business opportunity, you need to:

  • Create professional-looking business profiles on the main Social Networking sites, such as Facebook (eg. Facebook Page), Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Regularly post news, articles, offers and links to these and your website (or specific relevent pages of your website) via your Social Media profiles. This information should be helpful, attractive, interesting, newsworthy, and interactive to your Social Media Followers and Friends, so that they begin to see this information exchange as a relationship, rather than you trying to sell them something.

So that’s Internet Marketing in a nutshell. Of course there’s more to it in the detailed activities, but it’s important to know the big picture, so that you’re able to operate within that.

What do you need to do to start your Forever Living business?

So you’re a brand new FLP Independent Distributor. Congratulations!

No doubt your sponsor / upline manager (the FLP distributor or manager who brought you into the business) has given you some advice and training materials or signposted you to the official FLP Distributor Training website…

But you may still feel at a loose end. After all, there’s so much to do, from getting trained, and setting up your own website; to finding customers, and sponsoring your own distributors to build your downline.

Firstly, don’t panic. Simply make a list of all the things you need to do. Don’t worry if your list grows longer as you remember more things to do – just aim to do, or start, one of those activities every day.

Secondly, remember that the business of Network Marketing is a people business. Having said that, you do need to know FLP’s products and the benefits of joining this business, so that you can attract customers, and sponsor distributors to your downline.

So do use and get to know FLP’s health and beauty products yourself and talk to others who use them, as well as do the distributor training offered by FLP. All of this will give you a good grounding and boost your confidence to go out there and market!

Thirdly, although your FLP sponsor might encourage you to make a list of at least 100 people you know in order to call them all up as potential customers or distributors, you need to work smart not hard! While contacting people you know at the start of your business can generate some customers and possibly even some distributor sign-ups, which will boost your confidence, it’s not the only thing you should do.

You need to think about your target markets – such as mothers of children with health problems like excema, elderly people who need a health boost or have joint problems, and business people who may be looking for another income opportunity – and where you will find them. Then you need to arrange FLP displays, stalls, events or presentations (in person and/or online), so that you will have access to lots of people in your target market at the same time.

Lastly, although you should definitely increase your marketing reach by utilizing the power of the Internet (with your website and through Internet Marketing activities), you need to remember that customers and distributors will be much more likely to buy/sign up if they know, like and trust you.

This means no matter how you found these people in the first place, you need to spend time interacting with them, listening to their issues, and talking to them about the benefits of FLP from their point of view.

Good luck with your business, and may it go from strength to strength!
